In conjunction with Coastal Carolina University, the Pee Dee Education Center provides on-line re-certification courses for teachers in the Pee Dee region.  Most of the courses offered will satisfy both the Critical Needs and PACE programs for teacher certification.

Different courses are offered each semester and in the summer depending on the needs of teachers in the member districts.  Generally a course must have at least 15 students in order for it to be held.

Sign up  for courses will be "on-line" and there will no longer be a need to come to the Pee Dee Education Center to register.

An application to Coastal Carolina University must be completed each time a teacher takes one of these courses even if the application has been completed previously.  You may click on this link, APPLICATION CCU, to download an application.   You should mail your application prior to the deadline of May 30, 2008.  Please MAIL (do not fax) the completed application to:

There  is no longer a need to complete an application to the PDEC.    A check for $50.00, payable to the PDEC,  must be turned in to your district’s staff development coordinator to hold a slot in each class.  The $50.00 is refunded if the class does not make. 

 Please note that the Pee Dee Education Center can NOT accept credit cards.  You may pay by check, money order, or EXACT amount of cash since we also have no provision for making change.

Simply follow the instructions from the above link.  You may wish to print out these instructions.

SIGN UP FOR YOUR COURSE

Go to www.coastal.edu/graduate/pde and follow the directions.  You will not be able to sign up after May 30, 2008.  If the student is paying, payment should be mailed to the PDEC by that date also.

TEXTBOOKS

To order textbooks from the CCU bookstore (phone 843-349-2360), go the CCU Homepage www.coastal.edu .  Then go to the "Academics" link. Under the "Academics" link, click on "Bookstore" and then "Find your textbook".  You may then order new or used books (if available) for your course.

PAYMENT FOR COURSE

Note:  Unless a course fails to "make", there will be no refunds permitted.

If your district is to pay for the course, the PDEC will bill the district for the full payment of $230.00/course.  If the student is to pay for the course, you must mail a check for the balance ($180.00/course) payable to the PDEC.  Please note on the memo blank of the check the course number you are taking.  No student will be allowed to begin the course until payment has been received.  You should mail your payment, if applicable, prior to the deadline of May 30, 2008.

If you have other questions such as, who is paying for the course, you should ask your district coordinator.

  Summer Session begins on June 9, 2008, and ends on August 15, 2008.  The deadline to register is May 30, 2008.
