The Pee Dee Education Center was
formed in 1967 to provide services to its member school
districts. Current membership includes Chesterfield County
Schools; Clarendon Districts 1, 2, & 3; Darlington County
Schools; Dillon Districts 1, 2, & 3; Florence Districts
1, 2, 3, 4, & 5; Lee County Schools; Marion Districts 1, 2, & 7;
Marlboro County Schools; Williamsburg County Schools; Coker
College, and
Francis Marion University.
The Center provides such
programs as Project SHARE which serves low incidence
disabled students in the host sites of Darlington County
Schools and Florence School District One.
Also the Center provides Early
Childhood services to districts wishing to participate.
Teacher on-line re-certification
courses are coordinated through the Center with Coastal
Carolina University.
The Center promotes hiring of
minority teacher candidates by sponsoring several loans each
year to worthy minority students who are going to college
and major in Education. Upon graduation, if the student
returns to the Pee Dee region to teach, the loan is paid by
the school district.
High School and Middle School
Academic Challenges are sponsored by the Center as well as
the regional Spelling Bee and the FMU Math Tournament.
